This month my wife and I visited Cancun in Mexico for a long overdue holiday. I was able to alternate my days between the gym and early morning walks on the beach to try and capture some sunrise shots. I didn’t have my tripod with me and I was using my old D80 rather than the D800, as I wanted to travel a bit lighter and not worry too much about my main Nikon body. I have posted a few of the shots here, some of which were taken with my Nikon P7000 which although is a bit long in the tooth still serves me well. I found the main challenge was the condensation, even when I thought I had left enough time for the camera and glass to acclimatise it was often not long enough!
I have been tempted to get my hands on a Go-Pro and having seen others in action over the last couple of weeks I may take the plunge before the years out. Having tried snorkelling for the first time since I was at school (which is a very long time ago now) it would have made for some interesting footage as a one meter long Barracuda swam by me! The colours and variety of fish on the Isla Mujeres reef were spectacular.
We also visited the Mayan ruins at Coba and I’ve included a few shots below. It was a bit of slog through the jungle so don’t forget the insect repellent if you’re considering this one at some point in the future. Sensible shoes are a must, although trainers would do if you want to climb to the top of the Pyramid.
October will see us back in my home town of Lichfield in Staffordshire in the UK, so I hope have some shots to put up from that trip if I have time!
