No overseas trips this month, although I will be heading back to the UK for three weeks in April. We are usually back in the UK for Easter, but work commitments have meant that I have needed to stay behind this year. On the plus side it is Cherry Blossom Season here in Washington, so the following shots give a flavour of what this means for the country’s Capital. There were more photograhers out and about today than you could shake a stick at, including a representative selection of the countries broadcast media, so finding the beter vantage points was a bit of a challenge.
In Spring each year the Cherry Blossoms in the Capital reach their peak bloom but only for a few days and today was the day! The trees were originally a gift from the Japanese as a gesture of friendship and good will to the people of the United States, but over the years these have increased in number to nearly 3800 trees of 16 varieties. The trees are cared for by the National Capital Parks Service and are a big draw for the capitals residents and visitors alike.
