Las Vegas
Towards the end of August we met up with our son and his fianceé in Las Vegas at the start of a three week trip up the West Coast of America. We spent 4 nights in Las Vegas before driving to San Diego which was to be our first stop over. Las Vegas was OK and I'm glad we did it but it's not somewhere we are likely to return! During our few days in Las Vegas we drove out to the Hoover Dam which was about a 40 minute drive South East of the city and well worth the visit. Some of the shots here are from my Nikon D800 and others were shot with my now ageing Nikon P7000 with the rest on the iPhone 6S+. This was our main holiday this year so I had to balance the photography with the need for a family holiday, so inevitably I ended up shooting at the less desirable times of the day.

Our drive to San Diego took about 5 hours and took us through the Mojave desert. This is a fairly uneventful drive so we were glad to finally reach San Diego later that afternoon. San Diego is home to half of the US Pacific fleet and the second largest naval base in the US next to Norfolk in Virginia. The USS Midway is moored here as a floating museum.

After two nights in San Diego we headed North to Hollywood but more of that in Part 2 in September's blog.
