This month marked a special occasion for my wife so we headed to Chicago for 3 nights and of course I had to take my camera with me. However I travelled light this time so I only took my Nikon P7000 and the iPhone 6S Plus.

We flew out of Reagan National in Washington DC into Chicago O'Hare airport and then took the train into the city which was quick and efficient and cheap at only $5 each.

The weather was great for our first 2 days but clouded over on our last day. This was our first time in Chicago and I have to say we loved it. We stayed at the River Hotel which was directly opposite the Trump Tower!

Like any city with a river running through it Chicago has real character. We did the usual "hop on hop off" city bus tour which we have always found to be the best way of getting to know a city quickly. We spent a morning down at the Navy Pier and at The Bean as well as taking a the `River Boat Architectural Tour' which we would recommend. We were lucky to be there when they were raising the bridges to let the taller masted yachts out of the basin so they could head to the dry docks for the winter.

We also took the Chicago Crime Tour http://www.chicagocrimetours.com/#tours one evening to see where the mobsters hung out and in some cases bit the dust as with John Dillinger in this rather unsparing alley.

The alley where John Dillenger was gunned down by the Fed's!
