Well I've finally done it! After months of pondering and watching nearly every You-Tube video/tutorial I have acquired the Mavic Pro drone!
I have been considering buying the Mavic Pro for a while now and I finally pressed the button this month. I currently live within 15 miles of DC so I am in the “no fly zone” as a consequence I am not able to fly it anywhere near our home. My main purpose for acquiring the Mavic was to be able to make photographs from unusual perspectives but also to venture into ariel video photography.
The Mavic is the perfect photographers drone. I knew I wouldn't use anything that it too large as I just wouldn't be bothered (for want of a better word) to take it with me! The Mavic is foldable and very compact so fits within my normal camera bag along with the rest of my gear.
On a recent trip back to the UK I took it out for its maiden flight, mainly to check that everything was functioning correctly which thankfully it was. The Mavic seems to be idiot proof, it must be for me to fly it! The auto take off and landing function takes all the nerves out for the first time flyer. But as I mentioned above I have watched serval hours of YouTube videos on what to do and not to do so I was reasonably well prepared.
These photographs have been edited in Lightroom. I did take some video footage but I just pressed record as I tested out the various functions so it’s nothing I’d be prepared to show here. In the coming weeks I will be mugging up on the best settings for video and other tips and tricks.
